Prescribed as Addreall, dextroamphetamine or lisdexamfetamine.

Amphetamine will not be included from 2 March, however is expected to be included later in 2015 following consultations to agree the limit.

Why may this be prescribed?

A stimulant used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Also used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Class B drug (Class A when prepared for injection) used recreationally as an aphrodisiac and euphoriant.

Side Effects?

  • Psychosis, agitation, panics, patients experience lethargy and find it difficult to concentrate on a come-down from the drug.

Likely level of drug expected to be impaired?

Currently awaiting consultation.

How long will it take to leave my system?

Detection time starts – 1-4 hours after taking.

  • Urine – Up to 5 days.
  • Hair – Up to 90 days.
  • Saliva – Up to 3 days.
  • Blood – Only usually detectable by a standard blood test for approx. 24 hours, although a high dose may be detectable for 2-4 days.
