What is Ecstasy?
MDMA is a psychoactive drug of the relieved methylenedioxyphenethylamine and substituted amphetamine classes of drugs. MDMA has become commonly known as “ecstasy”, usually in tablet form. The UK name “Mandy” and the US name “Molly” are the colloquial terms for Ecstasy in a crystalline powder formula that is relatively free of adulterants. The term “Molly” can occasionally also refer to the linked drugs methylone, MDPV, mephedrone or any other of the pharmacological group of compounds, usually known as” bath salts”. MDMA is illegal in most countries. Some limited exceptions exist just for scientific and medical research. Medical analyses have noted that MDMA has some limited therapeutic benefits in certain mental health disorders. However it can have potential adverse side effects, such as addiction and neurotoxicity, associated with its use. Taking ecstasy makes users feel alert, energized and alive. On its own, it’s not a drug that makes people violent.
What is the risk of taking Ecstasy?
- Long-term users may develop depression and anxiety, they can suffer memory problems.
- People with blood pressure problems, a heart condition, epilepsy or asthma can have a very dangerous reaction to the drug.
- Ecstasy affects the body’s temperature control and causes a risk of overheating and getting dehydrated.
How long does Ecstacy (MDMA) stay in system?
- 3-4 days in urine

*For chronic users, drugs can be reserved in the system much longer after their last use. For example, marijuana and PCP stay in user’s system and can be detected for up to 30 days after long periods of heavy use.
